Pan American Games Day 03 | Table Tennis and Softball

October 17th, 2011

Today was an odd day because I spent an hour and a half waiting for a bust that comes every hour and when we cot home at the end of the day we had no internet so I was unable to post to the blog. Today I am writing from the Pan American Velodrome, an indoor cycling track facility. We have had a three hour break between events and now everyone is gearing up again for the finals which start in 30min.

I started the day yesterday at table tennis which is always a lot of fun to shoot and then after being delayed a few hours by unreliable busses I was able to catch some nice light at softball in the evening.

After table tennis it was my intention to go to the men’s team track cycling finals but due to a series of late busses I ended up at the gymnastics and softball complex. I shot the mens and women’s trampoline prelims for a while and then moved over to the softball stadium for some epic sunset light.

Oct. 17, 2011 - Guadalajara, Mexico - KEILANI RICKETTS of the United States of America waits in the dugout during a technical delay at the start of softball prelims at the Pan American Softball Stadium, part of the Pan American Games. The United States won the game over Venezuela with a final score of 10-0 when the run rule ended the game after only 4 innings. The delayed start was caused when officials ruled that several of the USA team's bats were illegal and could not be used in competition.

After softball Ben and I got a ride back to our hotel with the mother of one of the team USA players, she was from Houston Texas.. a place I know all too well from a previous sports adventure. It was so nice to have a ride back to the hotel that wasn’t a press bus. The press busses are old, noisy, bumpy, hard to find, and never on time. This is my only frustration from the games, otherwise it has been a blast.

The sad thing about softball was that the light was gone by the time the game really got started but I hope to go back tomorrow evening. The USA team is favored to win.
