Pan American Games Day 08 | Hockey, Archery, and Softball

October 23rd, 2011

I was very sick on friday, possibly something I ate from a street vendor.. Poor choice as Ryan Buller would say… so I didn’t take any photos, but I was back at it today with hockey and Softball

I started the day today by photographing “Hockey” to those of us in the USA or ganada I believe it would be more appropriately called “Field Hockey”. …. In other news, it turns out that the United States of America has a men’s field hockey team… I’m pretty sure this is the biggest news in sports since Jamaica started that bobsled team, and we all know how big that was!

After the hockey match ended I heard the announcement of the gold medal for American Archer Brady Ellison so on my way out I rushed over to the archery stadium to watch the medal ceremony. When I got there they were awarding the medals for the women’s individual competition. Gold went to Mexico and there had to be at least 30 photographers there to photograph the gold medal. As soon as the women’s medal ceremony was over all of the photographers left and there were about five of us still there to photograph the men’s individual medal ceremony. There is something to be said for a home team win.

The evening was Softball Semifinals Canada vs Venezuela at 4;00 and USA vs Cuba at 6:00 I mostly just go to softball for the epic light in the evening. I could care less about the action but the light is fantastic. Inceidentally both the United States of American and Canada won their games respectively. Canada went on to earn silver today after beating Cuba but losing to the USA and the United States Softball team won the Gold Medal this afternoon.

These are photos from their semifinal game on Saturday, Oct. 22.
