Pan American Games Day 11 | Artistic Gymnastics

October 26th, 2011

Today was the men’s artistic gymnastics team finals at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara. Brazil won gold in the team competition, Puerto Rico took silver and the United States of America won bronze.

I have been talking with many other photographers at the events and the theme seems to be that many of them are using the Pan Am Games as an¬†opportunity¬†to photograph as many different sports as possible and gain experience on sports that they have never photographed before. I think this is a brilliant plan and I have been trying to apply it myself. Today was my first time photographing artistic gymnastics and I learned a lot. I like to shoot TIGHT action often with a lens that is a little longer than I should be using but I think that today I may have taken it too far… A few days ago Ben Morris mad a comment “There is nothing you can shoot with a 300mm that you shouldn’t shoot with a 400mm” at the time I agreed fully but now I realize that maybe a 400mm was a little too much for artistic gymnastics and that in some situations a 300mm or even 20omm would have been the way to go… Anyway, here are the photos, you be the judge:
