The Dig Team is a small, dedicated, group of volunteer riders who spend a few days a week throughout the summer caring for the Waterbury Bike Park. Located on River Rd. within view of the Waterbury Ice Center, the Waterbury Bike Park is in its fourth year, after being destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene it was wiped flat and completely re-designed last summer.. Head Developer and Coordinator James Bordeaux says "In the early, early spring we try to come down and clean everything up." Then, throughout the summer The Dig Team "does some maintenance, makes sure things are safe, put it all together, and make it fun for everybody." Cleaning up a little early in Waterbury. While Greenup day might not be until next weekend a group of volunteers gathered along Rout 2 in Waterbury just east of the Cider House restaraunt to gather tires and other debris left behind after Tropical Storm Irene. Despite the spitting snow flurries and freezing temperatures overnight the group started work around 9:00am on Saturday and within an hour had already removed and stacked hundreds of tires as well as piles of other debris washed downriver by the storm.
