Volunteers walk past a tire in the field on their way to collect more tires and other debris on the river bank  Cleaning up a little early in Waterbury. While Greenup day might not be until next weekend a group of volunteers gathered along Rout 2 in Waterbury just east of the Cider House restaraunt to gather tires and other debris left behind after Tropical Storm Irene. Despite the spitting snow flurries and freezing temperatures overnight the group started work around 9:00am on Saturday and within an hour had already removed and stacked hundreds of tires as well as piles of other debris washed downriver by the storm.

After Tropical Storm Irene Clean-up and Green-up continues in Waterbury

A group of volunteers gathered in Waterbury Vermont a week before Green-up Day to tackle an immense task: remove around 1500 tires and other debris deposited along the banks of the Winooski River near the Cider House Restaurant on Rout 2 in Waterbury.

Winter Hiking

My winter in Vermont was short-lived. The snow melted quickly and warm temperatures have arrived with spring flowers and more green than I can handle. Fortunately Meredith and I did get in one good winter climbing adventure and I managed a few days of east-coast skiing before spring took hold.
