Portraits

Central Vermont Humane Society volunteer Virginia Barry holds a group of kittens at the Humane Society shelter on Vermont 14 in East Montpelier. Virginia has been a volunteer at the shelter for four years, one of her duties is assigning "felinalities", a controlled system of catagorizing the personality of cats developed by the Humane Society of America. "I also get to do the other glamorous stuff like washing the litter boxes" says Barry who recently assigned her 100th Felinality profile. Summer is kitten season in Vermont and the CVHS has been receiving a steady flow of kittens for adoption. During this time of the year when there are so many kittens available for adoption some of the older cats at the shelter are overlooked, but their are many adult cats at the shelter that are also in need of a good home.

Troy Maxham on the other hand, bought the house that the Barre Technical Center’s building trades program assembled more than a decade ago at Spaulding High School and he is moving it … [...]
